Daily Update--Sept.28/12

We had a great Gym Riot today as the students participated in all activities and showed great sportsmanship. Our Terry Fox Run/Walk also was a success and we certainly enjoyed the beautiful weather.

ELA--We will be adding up our pages on Monday to see if we reached our individual as well as class reading goals for September, so please keep reading over the weekend. Have a print out of a background for your bio-poem if you are wanting an overhead made of it on Monday.

Math--3.3 in the textbook--Pages 99/100--#7,12,15,17, and 19 for Monday.

Science--We wrote our quiz today. Please try to catch some grasshoppers for Monday.

Art--The tagging assignment is due Tuesday.

8R Science--You will be writing your microscope quiz on Monday. Study the location of the parts, spelling of the parts, and the functions of the parts.


Picture Day is next Friday. They will be pre-paid this year.

Daily Update--Sept.27/12

ELA--Students should already have their rough draft of the bio-poem submitted for editting by me. They should look for and print off a background picture if they want one as their backdrop for the poem.

Science--We have a Microscope quiz tomorrow afternoon. Students need to know the parts, location, spelling of the parts, and the functions of those parts.

SS--The worksheet "Preparing to Study" needs to be completed for tomorrow.

Art--The tagging assignment is due for Tuesday, Oct.2.

We will have regular classes tomorrow morning until 9:25. Students will then be involved in the Gym Riot from 9:30 until 11:00 so they need to wear their team's colours. Then at 11:30, we will be going on the Terry Fox Run/Walk. Students need to dress appropriately and have good walking shoes. This will take us into the lunch hour and then we will have regular classes in the afternoon.

Please remember to bring in your Terry Fox pledge sheets and money tomorrow.

ELA--Grammar exercises #24,25, and 26 on adjectives for tomorrow. The rough draft of the Bio-Poem is due tomorrow.

Science--Review microscope parts, location, spelling, and functions for Friday's test. Collect grasshoppers.

SS--Worksheet "Preparing for Study--Part 1" for Friday.

Tomorrow is Hat Day and if students would like to wear a hat they need to donate $2 to the Terry Fox fundraiser.

Daily Update--Sept.25/12

ELA--The Evidence of Learning illustration is due tomorrow. The first reading response is due tomorrow as well. The students were introduced to their next assignment--Bio-Poems, so they can start brainstorming ideas for it.

Math--Textbook page 99--questions #4 a and b, #5 b and c,#6, 10 and 11 for tomorrow.

Science--We will be writing a quiz on the parts, location, and functions of the microscope on Friday. Spelling must be accurate too. We also need grasshoppers for our dissection.

ELA--The students should be reviewing the spelling of the unit 1 vocabulary words for tomorrow's test. They also must review the definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and correct usage of the 20 words in sentences for tomorrow's test. The Evidence of Learning illustration is due Wednesday. The first IRP response is due Tuesday/Wednesday of this week.
Math--On the 3.3 worksheet, complete #6,8, and 9 for tomorrow.

Science--Please try to collect some grasshoppers for our first dissection. Bring them to school dead or alive. Thank you!

I was at a report card inservice today, so I hope the day went smoothly for the class with the substitute. If anyone is unsure of the homework, please give me a call tonight.

Daily Update--Sept.21/12

ELA--The grammar page on plurals is due Monday. The test for vocabulary UNit 1 will be on Tuesday, along with a spelling test. The students should study the synonyms, antonyms, definitions, and how to use the words correctly in  a sentence. The "Evidence of Learning" illustration is due Wednesday.

Math--Worksheet 3.3 #1,3,5 and 7 are due Monday.

Science--Students need to collect grasshoppers (alive or dead) and bring them to school next week.


The Terry Fox Run/Walk is next Friday. Students should be collecting pledges until then.

Daily Update--Sept.20/12

I hope the students enjoyed their Made in Mb breakfast today. Please ask them to explain the event to you.

ELA--Students are working on their IRP's which are due next week. They should also be reviewing unit 1 vocabulary words for Tuesday's test. Remember to study the spelling of the words too.

Science--You need to complete the worksheet on lab safety procedures if you did not finish in class today. You also need to start catching some grasshoppers for our dissection next week.

French--Dictation next week Tuesday.

There are only a few students who still need to hand in their registration forms and signed parent information letter and return them to school.

ELA--Students should be working on their IRP which is due next week. They should also be reviewing all of the vocabulary words from unit one as the test will be next week Tuesday. They need to stduy the definitions, synonyms, spelling of the words, and be able to use the words correctly in sentences.

Math--Textbook page 86--questions #15,16,17,21 and 23 for tomorrow.

Daily Update--Sept.18/12

ELA--The good copy of the friendly letter is due tomorrow morning at the beginning of class. Exercise 1 of the Nouns booklet is due tomorrow. You should also be working on your IRP.

Math--Textbook page 85--#6,8,10,12 and 13 are due tomorrow.


Remember to work on getting pledges for the Terry Fox Run.

ELA--The remainder of the vocabulary booklet is due tomorrow. The friendly letter to me should already be self-editted, and the good copy is due Wednesday. Start working on your first IRP which is due next week Tuesday/Wednesday.

Math--Do your corrections from worksheet 3.1 and answer #9 on the same worksheet for tomorrow.

French--Dictation on Monday.

Anyone who has not handed in their kleenex, signed course outline sheet and the parent informational letter,and/or paid their $5 paper fee, please do so asap.

Daily Update--Sept. 13/12

ELA--The remainder of the vocabulary booklet is due Tuesday. The rough draft of the friendly letter to me is due Monday. Students need to be reading everyday to finish their book so they can work on their first IRP which  will be due approximately Sept. 25/26.

Math--3.1 worksheet on Perfect Squares, questions # 1,2,4,5,6,7,8 are due Monday. The answers to these questions are to be done in their Daily Assignment scribbler.

SS--Complete the Index/Glossary worksheet for Monday.

Please remember to bring in your registration forms, paper fee money, immunization form, signed course outline sheet, and the bottom portion of the informational letter.

ELA--The "Synonym and Antonym" page in the vocabulary booklet is due tomorrow. We have started our first writing assignment which is a friendly letter to me. Students should start working on their rough draft. We will decide on a due date tomorrow.

SS--Complete the Scavenger Hunt paper for tomorrow.

French--Bring headphones or earbuds tomorrow.

8R Science--Title page is due tomorrow.

Remember that the Open House is tomorrow evening at 7pm.

ELA--We started Unit 1 vocabulary today. Students need to complete the Synonyms/Antonyms page for Thursday. Remember to read 20 minutes or longer tonight.

Science--The title page is due tomorrow. If the chart dealing with scientists does not have atleast 3 points for each, students need to do some research tonight.

SS--Questions #11 to 40 on the Scavenger Hunt is due tomorrow.

French--Bring headphones to class for Thursday.

A purple informational letter was handed out today. Students need to take the letter home for their parents to read and sign. Please return the bottom portion signed tomorrow to school. Thank you!


8R Science--Your title page is due Thursday.

Remember the signed course outlines, registration forms, and the paper fee. Also the immunization forms need to be handed in to the office.

ELA--Daily reading for 20 minutes.

Science--Have title page done for Wednesday. It was great to see so many hand it in today.

Course outline signatures are due back to school. Please hand in registration forms and paper fee asap.

Daily Update--Sept.7/12

ELA-- We have signed our September reading contracts today so the students should be reading every night for a minimum of 20 minutes.

A package of our course outlines has bent sent home and students need to sign it and have their parents read and sign it as well. Please return it to the school on MOnday. If parents would like a paper copy, please have your child tell me and I can send one home.

Science--A title page assignment has been given with the criteria written out. It is due Wednesday.

8R Science--Have your name tags completed for MOnday's class.

ELA:  We have chosen our reading books from the library today, so students should be reading at home every night for a minimum of 20 minutes. If students did not complete the "Who Are You?" questionnaire, they need to do so for tomorrow.

Daily Update--Sept. 5/12

Welcome everyone to the new school year!
We have all survived the first day, and I think it was a great start to the year.

The students have this site, and I have asked them to add it on as a "Favorite" as I will be posting all homework and important dates, information, etc on it daily.

Tonight, the students have taken home their registration forms which need to be signed and returned to school office, along with $5 paper fee.

We also talked about supplies and what they should bring tomorrow. Lockers have been assigned so supplies can be placed into the lockers as soon as the students get to school. Please remember to have a lock for the lockers.
