Daily Update--Dec.22/11

The only homework the students have over the holidays is to read to reach their December reading goal, and to complete their next book report which is due Tuesday, January 10.

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year. May peace, love, and laughter fill your homes during this season, and throughout the year.

Daily Update--Dec.20/11

ELA--Students wrote their chapter 11 and 12 comprehension test today. The only homework they have now is to work on their second book project which is due either by Thursday, Dec.22 or Tuesday, January 10 (if they want to work during the holidays). They are also working on the cover jacket for The Outsiders. They are entering this in our class contest, and it is due January 13.

Math--We started fractions today. 6.1 worksheet was assigned in class.

Tomorrow I will be going sking with the students. They need to be at school by 7:3o so we can board the busses and leave by 8, the latest. Those not sking will have regular classes. On Thursday, the grade 8 students will be going curling in the morning (after the pancake breakfast) and it will cost $2 and the yellow permission form needs to be signed. If they would like to go to Winkler in the afternoon to watch a movie, it will cost $10.00, and a pink permissson form needs to be signed and brought to the office. If they remain at school, acitivities will be happening here as well.

Daily Update--Dec.19/11

ELA--You need to reread chapters 11 and 12 in the novel in preparation of the comprehension test tomorrow. You are also working on your second book report or IRP which is due either by this Thursday or you can have the holidays to work on it, and hand it in on Tuesday, January 10.

Daily Update--Dec.16/11

I am sorry that I am doing this on Saturday morning, but the internet was off Friday afternoon as the power in the school kept going off and on.

ELA--Students need to work on their Christmas story and the cover jacket, as they are due for Monday. Remember that you need the jot notes, rough drafts, and the good copy along with a front and back cover. You should also prepare for the comprehension test on chapters 11 and 12 in the novel. This test will be written on Tuesday. Work on your second book project due either Thursday or January 10.

Math--No homework as the test was written on Friday.

SS--Have your test signed and returned to class.

As a class, we have decided that we will have our English/Ukrainian Christmas party in the new year--January 17, Day 6 as there are so many other happenings going on next week in school. We plan on playing games, hopefully going outside and playing in the snow, and sharing in food.

Daily Update--Dec.15/11

ELA--Work on the next draft of your story, and on the cover jacket. Everything is due Monday. Novel comprehension test on chapters 11 and 12 will be on Tuesday.

Math--Last review before tomorrow's test--worksheet pg 263--#1,2,3,6,10,and 12, and on the flipside--#5,9,and 10. Work on any more questions that deal with concepts that you are still struggling with.

SS--Get your test signed and returned tomorrow.

ELA--Work on your revisions of the Christmas story, and work on the cover jacket. All due next Monday/Tuesday. Your second book report or IRP is due either before holidays (Dec.22) or January 10.

Math--Complete the End of Review worksheet and do question 17 on page 150 in the textbook. Unit test is on Friday.

Daily Update--Dec.13/11

ELA--A few students still need to complete the rough draft of their Christmas story. All students should self-edit and think about a creative cover jacket. We will be editting together tomorrow. The final good copy is due next Monday/Tuesday.

Math--The students voted today, and decided that we would write the unit test on Friday if all goes well, we complete the review, and are ready to write. Tonight's homework is the "End of Review" booklet #1 to 5 for tomorrow.

SS--Complete the worksheet on "Ancient Words" for tomorrow.

Daily Update--Dec.12/11

I was away on Friday and did not update the blog, so I apologize for anyone who checked and did not find an entry.

Today in ELA students have three novel assignments which they are taking home to get signed. They need to return these tomorrow. They should also have their rough draft of the Christmas story done for tomorrow unless they have spoken to me. If they would like to get ahead of things, they can work on their second book project and complete it by next Thursday;otherwise it is due January 10.

Math--We have started review for our Unit 4 test. In the textbook, page 150, complete questions 1 to 6, and #9 for tomorrow. We will decide on a test date in tomorrow's class.

SS--Have the concept relationship frame completed for tomorrow.

8C--SS--Get test signed and returned tomorrow.

Daily Update--Dec.8/11

ELA--Christmas story rough draft should be done by Monday/Tuesday. Review unit 4 vocabulary words for Monday's test. I handed out chapter 8 and 9 comprehension questions today. Read the two chapters in the novel and work on those questions which will be due Monday, with some class time given tomorrow to work on them. Begin working on your second book report.

Math--Questions # 9 and 11 on the purple sheet, and in the textbook page 148 #4,5, and 6 are due tomorrow.

SS--Work on your world map which will be due Monday, with some class time given tomorrow.

Science--Get test signed, and complete #11 booklet.

Daily Update--Dec.7/11

ELA--The students should have their storyline figured out for their Christmas writing. We will be starting our rough draft tomorrow on the computers. The vocabulary unit 4 test has been moved to MOnday. They should also be working on their next book report which is due either Dec.22 or Jan.10.

Math--We went over 4.4 today. I assigned the purple worksheet #1 to 4 ,#6 and 7 for tomorrow.

Daily Update--Dec.5/11

ELA--There are a few book projects/IRP's which were not handed in today. Those must be in tomorrow. Vocabulary booklet is to be completed for tomorrow. Begin brainstorming ideas for your Christmas story which we will start writing this week.

Math--Review the concept "Percent of a Number" as you will be writing a quiz on it tomorrow. Some students need to hand in a signed blue assessment sheet from last week.

SS--Civilization web is due tomorrow.

Science--Get your test signed and returned tomorrow. Booklet 10 is due tomorrow.

French--Project is due Wednesday.

8C--CC--Civilization web is due tomorrow.

8R--SS--Civilization web and timeline hunt are due tomorrow.

Music students need to be in the library by 6:45 tonight.
Anyone interested in going on the ski trip on Dec.21 must have their forms in by tomorrow.

Daily Update--Dec.2/11

ELA--The first IRP or book report is due MOnday. We signed our December calendar so remember to read daily. The unit 4 vocabulary booklet is due Tuesday.

Math--The white worksheet on percent of a number questions #1,3,6,8,10, 12,16,17,18,21,22, and in problem format #30 are due Monday. We will be having an assessement on this concept on Tuesday. Extra help again on Monday.

SS--Review your notes for Monday's test. Remember that you will have to hand in your notes after the test.

Science--Get your test signed and complete booklet #10.

8C--SS--Read pages 50 and 52 and complete the civilization quiz.

Daily Update--Dec. 1/11

Can you believe it is already December!

ELA--The students will be writing a comprehension test on chapter 6 of the novel tomorrow. Please look over the chapter and check details in preparation of the test. Have unit 4 synonyms and antonyms page completed for tomorrow. Your first IRP or book report is due Monday, Dec. 5.

Math--The blue assessment paper was handed back, and corrections need to be done and a signature is needed for tomorrow. The assignment on 4.3 page 142 and 143 #3 a and b, #5 a and b, #6 b and c, and in problem format #8 and 11 due tomorrow.

SS--Go over your notes as the test on ancient structures and settlements will be on Monday.
