Daily Update--Jan. 28/10

ELA--Have the comprehension questions on the short story,"Catch" done for Monday. This is in preparation for the ELA assessment. Complete the grammar worksheet for Monday. Work on your book project.

Math--Complete the sheet on "Assessment Review" for Monday. You will have a short quiz on these concepts on Tuesday.

SS--We started presenting our words today. Make certain your poster is complete and your model is in school for Monday. Bring in your signed test.

8C--Vocabulary test (on Thursday)on the Egyptian words that were presented in class. Study/Review your notes, and the words are also in your textbook which you can review.

A letter outlining the ELA assessment next week was distributed today. Please ask your son/daughter to see it. If you have any questions, just phone or email me.

Daily Update--Jan. 27/10

ELA--The short story questions and character map need to be completed for tomorrow. They are in preparation of the ELA assessment next week. You should be working on your second book project due next week.

Math--Worksheet pages 214-215--#5 and then in problem format #7,8a, 9, and 12 for tomorrow.

SS--Your word-a-day project with a model is due tomorrow. We will start presenting tomorrow. You must also get your SS test signed and returned to class for tomorrow.

Next week the students will be writing their ELA assessment which will run over three days starting next Tuesday. I did not get around to handing out the letter today, and I apologize for that. The students will take the letters home tomorrow. They cannot study for this assessment other than keeping up with their daily assignments and reading. They have been working in class on a variety of prepatory questions, and will be getting more grammar sheets to review and work on over the weekend.

Daily Update--Jan.22/10

ELA--Work on the second book project which should be finished by the end of the month or first week of February.

SS--Students need to have their "Word-a-day" completed by Tuesday. Remember the model also needs to be in school by Tuesday for your presentations.

8C--Be ready to present your word on Monday.

Daily Update--Jan.19/10

ELA--Grammmar worksheet is due Thursday. You should be working on your next book project.

Math--Worksheet 6.2--#5, and then in problem format #7,8, and 11.

Health--Test on the location of the bones and knowing the scientific and common names of the bones is on Friday.

SS--You have been introduced to the new "Word-a-day" assignment. It is due in a week.

8C SS--Your word-a-day assignment is due Friday.

Remember that you need to be in school tomorrow by 7:15. Busses are leaving at 7:30 to Brandon. You should bring a lunch with you,as well as comfortable shoes. Bring a book or something to keep you occupied on the bus ride. We will be arriving back home at around 5:15.

ELA--All essays are due tomorrow. Students should be working on their second book report.

Math--6.2 worksheet is due tomorrow.

Science--Your shoe box or kleenex box is due tomorrow for your experiment.

SS-Get Map quiz signed.

Health--Test on the location of the bones as well as the scientific names and their common names will be on Friday of this week.

8C--Get your test signed and returned tomorrow. You should be working on your Word-a-day project.

Please remember to bring in your signed permission form to go to Brandon Ag days this Wednesday.

Daily Update--Jan.15/10

ELA--The essay is due Monday/Tuesday. We will be having our Spelling Bee Monday morning,so the only time for further editting on the essay will be at noon hour. Some students have not handed in their first book report,and even though the reports are not due until March 11 (technically), I want them to learn time management skills. They must meet time lines now,so I will be asking some students to stay in at noon to accomplish some work.

SS--We wrote our open book test today. Students still need to hand in their signed Map Quiz.

Science--Have a shoe box or a kleenex box into class.

For our field trip to Manitoba Ag Days in Brandon on Wed., students need to hand in a sign permission slip. A detailed letter was sent home yesterday.

Daily Update--Jan.14/10

Happy Ukrainian New Year!!

ELA--Second draft of the essay is due if you have editted with me. The final good copy is due Monday/Tuesday.

SS--Test is tomorrow. Be prepared. Sumerian letter is due tomorrow as well. Have your Map quiz signed and returned tomorrow.

Science--Get test signed and returned to class. Bring a shoe box or empty kleenex box to class. Test on light sources on Monday.

Remember to bring in your permission slip to go to the Cougar game tomorrow. Also give your parents the letter in regards to our trip to Manitoba Ag Days.

Daily Update--Jan.13/10

ELA--I editted with a few more students today, and am hoping to edit the rest tomorrow.The next step is the second draft to be done on the computer, and then a final edit. Work on book reports.

SS--Continue to review for Friday's test. Letters are due Friday.

Science--We dissected the sheep's heart today. Ask at home what they thought of it. Bring in a shoebox for class.

Daily Update--Jan.12/10

ELA--Rough drafts of the essay should be completed tomorrow so I can edit with individual students.

Math--Worksheet page 109--#16 a,b,and c, and then in problem format--#17,19, and 20 for tomorrow.

SS--Review every night for the open book test on Friday. You have the booklet to review , and you should be going over the info in the textbook and know where the information is located (use sticky notes). Know the aspects of the culture. Your Sumerian letter is also due Friday.

Science--Get test signed and bring in a shoe box.

Students will need a signed permission sheet if they are planning on attending the Cougar hockey game Friday morning.

Daily Update--Jan.11/10

There was no update for the end of last week as I was away for Ukrainian Christmas which I celebrate with my family. I hope this did not cause any headaches for anyone. Students did go over homework at the end of each day with the substitute.

ELA--Some mobiles were not handed in today;they are due tomorrow. Students should finish the rough draft of their essay by Wednesday so I can edit with them. The essay will be due by Monday the latest.

Math--Fractions--handout page 108--#6,8,11 a and b,#13 for tomorrow.

SS--Open book test on Friday on Mesopotamia. Start review by knowing the textbook and where the information is located. Review the booklet of questions. The Sumerian letter is due Friday.

Science--Get test signed. Bring in a shoebox for tomorrow's class.

ELA--Students are working on their novel assignments and their essays now. Jot notes should be their first step in the essay writing.

SS--Map quiz tomorrow and the second sheet of questions in the Mesopotamia booklet.

Daily Update--Jan.4/10

Happy New Year!!

I trust everyone had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed their holidays.
Everything was back to business in grade 8 today!

ELA--Students should be working on their novel assignments---firstly, cover jackets should be completed and handed in asap. Many have already handed in their creations. The character mobile is next on the list, and it can only be done at home where the students can collect the necessary items that will represent their chosen character's personality. Do not forget to hand in the written section of this assignment. This mobile should be handed in by the end of the week. Check the rubrics for particular criteria for each assignment.
The first book project should also be handed in by the end of the week orMonday to stay on schedule. We will be adding up our December reading pages tomorrow, and signing our January calendars. I hope students reached their individual goals.
I will be introducing essay writing tomorrow, and students will start writing essays, so it is important that the other assignments are close to being finished very soon.

Math--We started our new unit--Fractions--today. No homework tonight.

Science--Title page on Optics is due Wednesday.

SS--We started correcting our Mesopotamia booklet today. Students need to review for their Map quiz which will be written on Thursday.
