Hi, everyone! I hope you are enjoying your day at home, and will go outside to play for a little while.

Tomorrow I would like you to write your Unit 4 vocabulary test. You did know about it this week, and you should have taken the material home to study on Wednesday night.
You will have time to work on your essay in class tomorrow because I would like to edit with more of you. If needed, you can have the weekend to work on it, or if you are all done, please hand it in tomorrow.
There is also your reading response/book report that you can be working on.

Don't forget about your Secret Santa gift and the permission slip with $9.00 tomorrow. I would also like the signed green info. letters returned to school.

-"Arnold the Apostrope" worksheet is due Monday.

Math-We have started fractions so the homework is on page 58--#6 e,f,i, and #9 a,d,e,f and #16 a.b.c abd #17 a,b,c for Monday.

Science-A diagram quiz on the animal cell will be written on Monday.

Today we had our class celebration party for reaching out reading goal for the month of Sept. We watched the movie. "E.T.". I hope the students enjoyed it. Thank-you to the students who brought cookies, popcorn, and chips. That was a great treat! Now to work towards our October goal of 18500 pages by Nov. 2.

ELA--The creative writing piece was handed in today. Students had some time to work on their "Tuff"posters which are due Wednesday, along with the one-page summary.
--"Evidence of Learning" for 10 vocabulary words will be due on Friday, same day as the test.
--The second reading response should be in and they should be working on the third one.

Math--Assignment on order of operations in their textbook on page 471--#4,5,6,and 13 e,f,g,and h. Due Monday. Study for the rewrite which will be on Tuesday.

Math--Their mid-unit tests were returned today. Students need to do their corrections for tomorrow. The students who received below 70% must come in for extra help for the next three noonhours and then have the chance to rewrite next Tuesday. The tests must also get signed tonight.

Math--We will be writing a mid-unit quiz tomorrow. Students can be reviewing the questions from their daily assignment scribbler for practice tonight.

Science--Students should have their 4-quadrant page on the Cell Theory completed for tomorrow.

ELA--Have chapter 2 of the novel read for Tuesday. Be prepared to write a test on the events of that chapter.

Math--Have page 25-#1,3,4a and b, 5,7,8,and 11 done for Tuesday.

Grade 7 and 8 students have begun their yearbook fundraiser today. It is selling items from the Quality Gift Shop brochure called "Jolly Holiday". I hope you get to see the brochure at home this weekend. This is a voluntary activity so students do not have to participate if they wish not to.

Math--I gave the students questions off the board. They are due tomorrow.

Science--Big test tomorrow. I hope everyone has been deligently studying all week.

SS--Two worksheets--one on primary and secondary sources(compare and contrast frame) and one on note-taking) --are due tomorrow.


We reached our reading goal for the month as a class so students are putting in their party suggestions in the can. We will decide soon as to the activities we will do to celebrate. Our class goal for the month of October is 18,500 pages.

ELA--I had the students do some testing today in comprehension so we did not get a chance to correct the vocabulary or the grammar. We will correct all of this tomorrow.
--Students need to have their Mind Map on the novel's characters done for tomorrow.

Math--In Math we went over the same concept as they did yesterday as there were quite a few who did not understand it. I asked them to look over the assignment so that it will be correct when we look over it tomorrow.

Science--Test on Friday. STUDY!!

I am still in need of a few signed information letters.
Tomorrow is picture day! Remember not only your beautiful smiles, but also the signed sheet. Do not bring any money for the pictures.

Daily Update--Sept.24/07

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

ELA--Students have a vocabulary drawing which is due Wednesday.
--Vocabulary Unit 1 test will be written Friday morning.
--The first reading response should be in no later than Monday, Oct.1. This will hopefully keep the students ahead of schedule and not scrambling to get work in the last day of the first term. They will need 3 to 5 reading responses in by Nov.2.
--Daily reading every night for 20 minutes.
--The bio-poems were handed in today and they look great!

Math--Work on G.C.F. and L.C.M.--page 14--#4, 6 a, 7, 9 a and b, and 10a due tomorrow.

Science--Try to bring in some grasshoppers (dead or alive) to class asap. Also review the microscope diagram for a short quiz next Science class.

Daily Update--Sept.19,2007

Hello everyone!

It is working!!Yahoo!!! I have had some difficulty with my blog lately, but it does look like it is working now. I will try my hardest to keep it updated with the latest homework for 8T as well as other classroom activities. I have not given this address to my homeroom students because it was not working until now. Tomorrow they will how to access this site.

ELA--The students are working on their Bio-poems which are due either tomorrow or by Monday. They have an evaluation sheet to refer to as to the requirements.
We have also begun our Independent reading program. Please ask at home about the specifics.
Students should be reading atleast 20 minutes every night.

Math--No homework tonight.

SS--A worksheet dealing with places and events is due tomorrow.

I hope students have approached you about sponsoring them for the Terry Fox Run/Walk.

Daily Update--June 19/07

We are finishing up some incompleted work the last two days. We have finished reciting our Shakespeare lines; and students have been doing a great job . We will be compiling our portfolios for the next few days.
Tomorrow we will be going on our field trip to the IMAX and the MB. Legislature Buiding. Town students must be at school by 8:30 as we will be leaving as soon as the last school bus arrives. We will be returning for buses at 3:40. Students need to bring a bag lunch as we may not have enough time to go to McDonald's.

Daily Update--June 14/07

ELA--The last book report is due tomorrow or Monday.
--Students need to be practicing their lines from Shakespeare. They must recite between 12 and 16 lines in front of the class by MOnday. Two students have already done so , and they did a fabulous job.

Math--The students' Mini-Math Textbook is due at the end of tomorrow's class. We will be printing them and working through each other's questions.

Science--There are students with incomplete assignments which must be completed asap.

Health--Both classes have projects due next week.

I hope you have received the letter describing our field trip slated for next Wednesday. The permission slips and $5.00 are due asap.

Daily Update--June 11/07

ELA--A new Shakespeare assignment--students must decide on and memorize 12 to 16 lines from "A Midsummer Night's Dream". They should tell me tomorrow of their chosen part, and then rehearse. They may recite in front of the class anytime from Wednesday to next MOnday. This can be done with a partner if there is a scene which involves two people in a conversation. Each person must still have 12 to 16 lines memorized.

Math--We are able to use the Business Lab all week to work on our Mini Math Textbook. This booklet should be ready to print by Friday.

Health 8A--A project choice--either to design a Cross-Circuit Training poster or a Sports Nutrition Principle poster -- is due next week.

ELA--The log entry booklet with a cover jacket is due Monday. I mentioned to the students that if there are any entries that they would like to rewrite , they can do so and put both entries into the booklet.

Science--Their crosswords and hopscotches are due tomorrow. Remember to also have answer keys.

Tomorrow is June-so-soon. Students should have purchased their tickets today, and they will need to hand in their signed permission sheet (if they have not done so yet).

Daily Update--June 6/07

ELA--We were watching the movie today so we did not have time to work on our log entry, however students can be working on it at home. It and the cover jacket will not be due tomorrow but probably Monday because I would like to give them some class time.
--The students should be reading and working on their last reading assignment.
--We will be watching the rest of the Shakespeare movie tomorrow.

Math--We could not get into a lab today so I gave an assignment after some instruction and review. The assignment is for marks and is due tomorrow. It is photocopied worksheet.

Science--The crossword puzzle and hopscotch with answer keys are due Friday. We do not have any classtime to work on them tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be the last day to purchase June-so-soon tickets ($2).

DAily Update--June 5/07

We held our Grade 7 &8 Track and Field Meet today. It was a great success! I think the students enjoyed themselves and the weather cooperated with us as well.

We had our first class today which was ELA. Students know they are to be working on the last log entry in Shakespeare. We will be watching the movie version of it tomorrow, so I suggested to the students that if they wanted to bring some munchies and/or money to buy something at the canteen they can do so.

Science--Students should be working on their crosswords and hopscotches.

Students were also given a permission slip to attend June-So-Soon at Stephenfield Park on Friday. It will cost everyone $2.00. The slips should be in as soon as possible.

ELA--I collected the book reports today (the third of four). The next report is due June 15.
--We finished reading Shakespeare"s "A Midsummer Night 's Dream" today. The students have one log entry to complete for Act 5. This and a cover jacket will be due either Thursday or Friday. We will decide tomorrow.

Science--Students are working on their hopscotch and crossword puzzles. This will be due Thursday with Wednesday's double class as their last class time to work on it.

ELA--The book report is due Monday. This is their third reading assignment. The fourth and final report will be due June 15.

Math--The due date has not yet been set for the Mini Math Textbook assignment,however the students should have page three of their book completed .

Science--We did not have a class today, however students can be working on their hopscotch and crossword puzzle because they will be due next week.

Daily Update--May 31/07

ELA--I collected the log entries for Act 4, Scenes 1 and 2 today. A few students did not have this completed. It is important to have them done because we start the next Act and/or Scene the following day. It only takes 10-15 minutes to complete; and there is only one log entry left to do.
--The third book report is due either tomorrow or MOnday (if students need the weekend to complete it).

Math--The students have started to make their own mini Math textbook on some geometry concepts. This is either an individual or partner assignment. It will all be created on the computer so we have not yet set a due date because the availability of labs may cause some delay.

Science--The students have starte d anew unit and are working on a hopscotch and crossword puzzle. A due date will be set tomorrow.

Daily Update--May 22/07

ELA--Students need to take their Unit 7 Vocabulary test home and get it signed. If it is returned tomorrow with a signature, the students will get an extra mark.
--Students are working towards their next reading assignment which is in a form of a book report, and is due next Friday, June 1 or Monday, June 4. I will be asking them for their choices within the next few days.

Math--The Algebra test was returned today. Students need to correct their errors and have the test signed and returned tomorrow (for an extra mark).

Health 8B--Brochures are due tomorrow.

Science--We have two more presentations tomorrow, and then we will be reviewing for a test. The test will be in a slightly different format which we will be discussing and reviewing in class. Test date will probably be the end of the week or early next week. We will decide tomorrow.

ELA--We had our class celebration today for reaching our reading goal. The only homework in ELA this weekend is to read. The next reading assignment/book report will be due June 1/4.

Daily Update--May 17/07

ELA--The students have surpassed their April reading goal of 15,800 pages. We have infact read 16674 pages and there were 5 students who have not handed in their reading log books,so we read a great deal this past month. As a celebration, we will be have a party tomorrow. The students have decided to bring in munchies and/or money for themselves to buy something at the canteen. They will be having their snacks as we watch a movie. We will also be going outside for some activities.
--We now have set our May reading goal at 16,780 pages.
--The sonnets which the students wrote were very creative and embellished in unique arrangements. I have entered all of them in the library's poetry contest.

Math--The students will be writing their unit test on Algebra tomorrow morning.

Health--Brochures due next week.

Daily Update--May 7/07

ELA--We are reading Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It is important that the students stay focused and ask many questions so they can follow the plot of the play. Log entries are to be completed after each scene.
--A vocabulary test for unit 7 will be written on Wednesday, May 9/07.

MAth--Algebra can be a difficult concept to understand if practice is not done every day. We also discussed the importance of listening to the explanations in class. The assignment tonight is on page 266--#7,9,10,11,and 15.

Science--Optics project is due Wedenesday. An extra mark will be given to any projects handed in tomorrow.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing break. Sorry there was no entry yesterday but I was experiencing difficulty with the internet .

ELA--Students have started researching Wiliam Shakespeare, and have a word search due tomorrow. They have also started a timeline on the life of Shakespeare. The criteria for the timeline has been handed out and the due date is next Wednesday.
--Their first reading assignment(book report) is due next Friday, April13.
--Vocabulary tests need to be signed and returned tomorrow.

Math--Assignment--worksheet page 361--# 4,5a to f,6a,b,c, #10,13a,b,c and #16 for tomorrow.

Good morning, everyone! It is a gorgeous day out there! Spring has arrived.

For the break I have not assigned any homework for the students other than to find a great book and read. A reading assignment of their choosing will be due April 13, so they have the option of completing it during the break, if they have the time, or working on it when they get back. Other than that, no homework!

ELA--The only homework here is to read.

Math--Have all corrections done on your test , and get it signed by your parents for tomorrow.

Science--Have the 2 concept overviews done for tomorrow.

We will be having our reading party tomorrow because the students reached their goal of 17800 pages. The students are asked to bring $4.50 to school tomorrow. That will give them a quarter of a large pizza and a drink. We will be watching a movie and eating pizza for our party.

Math--The unit test was handed back today. Students are working on their corrections and need the test signed and returned tomorow.

Thank-you for returning interview time choices. I will return those to the students tomorrow as a verification of times for the parents.

The class reached their reading goal of 17800 pages for the month of February, so we are in the process of listing suggestions in the suggestion can and will decide shortly as to what we will do.

Science--Fluoresecent lignt bulb drawing and explanation due Monday.

Report cards have been sent home today. Students also have taken their portfolios home. I have explained to the students that the mark on their report card is an average mark of their work from September up to March. The mark which they calculated in their portfolio is strictly from November to March, so they have an idea as to how they have improved (or otherwise)w this term as compared to last term. Please send back the bottom portion of the letter indicating time for our interviews next week.

Math--Our unit test is on Tuesday. For review, the assignment is--Page 55-#6, 14(in problem format),pg.63-#10, pg.77-#5, pg.79 #3 a to d, #4 a to d, pg.83-#12.

Science--Questions page 271--#1,2,4,5,6 and the concept map are due Monday.

Everyone in 8T was registered for the MS read-a-thon and was sponsored $1.00 by me. The large red and white envelopes with any monies must be in by Monday. I will place my money in each envelop at that time.

Daily Update--March 5/07

ELA--We discussed the short story project today, and I was expecting all projects to be handed in today after class. We discussed time management and not leaving things to the last minute. There were a few circumstances beyond our control and I realize that. They were many projects that should have been ready to hand in today but were not handed in. Those late projects are due tomorrow after working through lunch hour today.
--The book report is due tomorrow. As we discussed throughout this term, a minimum of 5 reading responses/book reports are due by the end of Thursday. Many students have reached,and even surpassed, this goal, but others have not. Students know that this Friday may have to be used as a catch-up/completion day if things are not handed in on time.
--We have started compiling our writing peices into our scrapbooks today, with the intention of completing this task by Thursday.

Math--No assignment tonight, but there are some students who need to catch up on some missing daily assignments and/or journal entries. We will begin review of this unit tomorrow with a unit test slated for next Monday or Tuesday.

Health--Board games will be due. 8A--Due Mon.Day 3
8B--Due Thurs.Day 2 or Day 4

Daily Update--March 1/07

Good morning everyone!
I did not update the blog yesterday as the homework was very similar to the last entry. Today,however, after the students have slept in, played in the snow and hopefully shovelled some snow, it is a perfect day to work on the ELA assignments.

In ELA the students have the short story unit project which is due tomorrow by noon. The book report is due on MOnday.

In Math, I assigned some questions off the board which are due tomorrow. We are working on the last type of percent problem and then will begin review of this unit. The unit test will probably be end of next week.

In Health, both classes are working on their board games. Class 8B have set their due date as next Tuesday, end of class.

Daily Update--Feb. 26/07

Sorry about the missing update on Friday. I had typed it in and viewed it, however with the internet acting ridiculous all week, I guess it did not go through. Hopefully it will work better this week.

ELA--Work on your short story project; it is due Friday of this week.
--Work on your book report which is due a week from today.

Math--Students did not understand part of the assignment, and did not work on it, so we had an extra class at noon today. The assignment is page 75 # 13 a to d, and ,on the worksheet, please answer # 6 a to f, #12 a to d, #13, #14 a,b,e,f and # 16 all.

Health 8 A and 8b-- Groups are working on their board games.

Tomorrow students( who have signed up) will be going skiing. It is a regular school day for everyone else. I will have work for them to do on throughout the day. They will be with Mr. Gross.

ELA--Students have chosen new books today. They will have approximately two weeks in which to read these books and complete a book report of their own choice. Please encourage home reading so this dead line can be met.
--Vocabulary unit test has been sent home for a signature.

Math--We are working on percent problem type #1--4 questions off the board and page 74 #5 a and c , and #9,11. Due tomorrow.

A reminder of the MS read-a-thon still going on, and students have until next Thursday to read. We will then be collecting the pledges. Thank-you!

Daily Update--Feb.14/07

ELA--Students should be continually working on their reading responses (due Monday).

Math--Ratios--Page 155--# 3, 4 a to h, 5 a to f, 6, 7, 8, and 10 (due tomorrow).

Science--The unit test is on Friday. A sample test was assigned on Monday and was due today. Out of 24 students, only 10 sample tests were handed in today. This is one process to prepare for a unit test. Students need to go through this process, plus others, in order to study and prepare for a test and be successful. The remainder of the tests are due tomorrow. Please remind students of this due date.

ELA--The majority of essays were handed in today. There are a few people who need to finish it up tonight and hand it in tomorrow morning.
--Students should be working on their next reading response which is due by Monday, as they will be selecting a new book on Monday. This will be the book they will read for their next book report.

Math--Due to the presentation today, we were unable to correct Friday's assignment. We will do that tomorrow. Students can go over conversion of fractions to % to decimals as they will have their third mini quiz on Wednesday.

Science--The unit test on the Circulatory System will be written on Friday of this week. Students were given a checklist on Friday, with a worksheet to be completed by tomorrow. They are also working on a sample test worth 40 marks which should be handed in either tomorrow or Wednesday. This will give them an opportunity to go over their notes, transfer the notes into questions and they must know the answers to the questions they ask. I will then photocopy the tests and students can exchange with classmates and have another format from which to study. We talked about "how to study" today--atleast 30 minutes each night,study by doing different things, not just reading.

Daily Update--Feb.7/07

ELA--Work on your essay. You have only two school days in which to work on it, then the rest will be on your own time It is due either Friday or Monday.
--Work and read to finish your next reading response or book report. We will be starting a BOOK REPORT with new books on Feb. 19.

Math --New assignment on ratios--pg. 60--#5,6, and 7. Due tomorrow.

Science--Congratulations to those students who were brave and presented orally today. Everyone must complete this presentation by next Tuesday.
--We will be writing a Science test next week Friday. A checklist and review questions will be handed out tomorrow.
--We dissected sheep hearts yesterday, and, I think, everyone was quite involved and intrigued by it. Hope the students enjoyed the experience.

Health 8A--Quiz on muscle injuries and disorders tomorrow.

I will be away at an inservice for the next two days so I will not be updating the blog. Students will however, have Math homework every night assigned by the substitute. They have their ELA essay to work on. They will also have Science homework which will be to prepare for the test. Unfortunately, the oral presentations will need to be delayed until Monday. Daily Update--Feb.6/07

ELA--Students are working on their persuasive essays. The essay is due either Friday or Monday(if they are needing more time). This essay cannot be written just by using class time. Some work must be done at home, such as researching and/orworking on the rough draft so I can edit with them. Please check with them as to where in the process they are at, and encourage some work to be done at home. The students have chosen some interesting topics to write about.
--January's calendar was handed in today, and we will be signing February's calendar tomorrow. A reading response/book report is due be end of next week.

Science--Students need to be practicing their oral presentation on "Pathway of the Blood". I provided them with more helpful notes today, and they have from tomorrow to next Tuesday in which to present their presentation.

SS--Students will be writing their test tomorrow.

We had our Spelling Bee today. CONGRATULATIONS go out to Nathan Horsman for winning the bee. Runners-up were Brittany Middleton and Samatha Dracass. Nathan will now advance to the Regionals which will be held in Winnipeg in March. Go Nathan, go!!

ELA--We will be writing our vocabulary unit 4 test tomorrow.

Math-Have yesterday's assignment completed.

Science--The aim is due tomorrow.

Students should be reading nightly, and they should be keeping track for the MS read-a-thon.

ELA--Vocabulary "Evidence of Learning" for unit 4 is due Friday (for an extra mark) or by Monday. This will prepare them for the vocabulary test to be written next Wednesday.

Math--The re-write was written today. There is a worksheet on percents which is due tomorrow.

Science--Questions 1 to 4 on Heartrates is due tomorrow.

Health 8B--Project due tomorrow. Quiz is now on Thursday.

The spelling bee is next Tuesday. I hope students are reviewing words. We also are starting our MS read-a-thon next week. Students should have shown you a handout and envelope on which to record their sponsors. This will run for one month. Some students are needing to make better use of their agenda books, listening to homework announcements, and checking the blog because a few are not getting their homework completed on time. Today we watched a documentary on the National Spelling Bee, as well as the movie,"Akeelah and the Bee" in preparation of our school's spelling bee (Grade 7&8) which will be held on Tuesday, Jan.30. The students received a newspaper package outlining the rules and lists of study words. We will be going over these words daily. All grade 8 students will participate in the spelling bee. The top 5 winners of the school will win prizes, and the top speller will advance to the regionals in Winnipeg, and then hopefully go on to Ottawa and then Washington,D.C.

ELA--Today was our last class day to work on the essay which is due Wednesday. If students would like to have their work editted by me, they must have it in tomorrow morning so they can receive an editted copy by the end of the day.

Daily Update--Jan.8/07

Happy New Year! Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great Christmas with family and friends and are looking forward to a wonderful 2007! Now for an update on homework and due dates.

ELA--Students will be updating and handing in their reading logs(December calendar) on Tuesday-tomorrow. Their second reading response/book report is due Wednesday. We are continuing our work on the novel essay which will be due on Friday or the following Monday, depending on the availabilty of computer labs this week.

Math--The review sheet (#1 to 10 on the first page) is due tomorrow. A unit test will be written at the end of this week. Extra Math help at noon hour will resume tomorrow.

Science--Aim #14 is due next class--Wednesday.

Health 8A--Matching quiz on the scientific and common names of the bones will be on Wednesday.
