Daily Update--Nov.30/11

I was a way at a conference today with some students, but there is some work that needs to be done.

ELA--Students need to have their letter to Sodapop completed for tomorrow. Make sure you have your jot notes, rough draft that shows signs of self-editting, and a good copy which is double-spaced and 12 font. This should be ready to hand in at the beginning of ELA class. Do not be printing or still typing at the beginning of class tomorrow. You should also be working on your first IRP or book report which is due Dec.5.

Math--There was not enough time to assign any work tonight.

SS--Go over notes, and prepare for a test. The test will probably be written on Monday instead of Friday.

Daily Update--Nov.29/11

ELA--We had our reading party during our ELA class today, so the students should have their rough draft of the letter completed from yesterday's homework. We will edit and work on the good copy in class tomorrow. It should all be ready to hand in Thursday morning Use time to work on the first IRP or book report which is due Dec.5.

Math--No homework.

SS--Review the notes that they have obtained so far from the presentations in class. The test on the ancient settlements and structures is tentatively set for Friday, so they should review every night.

Daily Update--Nov.28/11

ELA--The students need to complete their rough draft of the letter from Ponyboy to Sodapop for tomorrow. The criteria is explained on the handout. They should also be working on the first IRP or book report which is due Dec.5.

Math--The 4.3 pink worksheet #1 and 3 is due tomorrow.

SS--Students should go over their presentation notes so they are ready to present their research project tomorrow. We are taking down notes during the presentations, and then will have a test at the end of all presentations (end of the week).

We will be having our October reading party tomorrow afternoon, and I thank the students who graciously offered to bring food and movies. This is a reminder for them for tomorrow.

Daily Update--Nov.25/11

Thank you to everyone who came out for our parent-student-teacher conferences. It was great to see everyone. I would like the students to make sure they have handed in their portfolio binder and scrapbook by Monday so we will have it for second term.

ELA--Continue daily reading and work on your first IRP or book report which is due Dec.5. You also have to read chapter 5 of the novel by Monday.

Math--Complete the pink worksheet, and review for the assessment on conversions which we will have on Monday.

SS--Your project on the Ancient Settlements and Structures is due Monday. Do not forget your model that goes with the project. We will start presenting the projects on Monday, as well.

Think about what you can bring for food for our October reading party on Tuesday. The students who did not bring any food for the September party should be the ones to bring this month. Have a good weekend!

ELA--You should be working on your first IRP or book report. The first one in due Monday, Dec.5.

Math--The pink worksheet is due MOnday. We will not have a Math class tomorrow because students will be writing their Science test in that period tomorrow. I will be giving them an assessment quiz on the concept of conversions on Monday. Review the concept.

Daily Update--Nov.22/11

ELA--The comprehension questions for chapter 4 are due tomorrow. Remember to have the answers in complete sentences with correct grammar, and with thorough answers. The students were given a handout as to the term two routine for the writing that accompanies their daily reading. It will be 1 IRP and 3 different book reports for this term. The handout has 13 different choices so hopefully many will be suitable to the books they are reading right now.

Math--Continue to review Mental Percent conversions for our surprise quizzes, one of which we had today.

Science--Study for Thursday test.

SS--Continue research for your project which is due Monday.

Daily Update--Nov.21/11

ELA--We finally completed our portfolios and scrapbooks today so the students are taking them home tonight. Hopefully you will have time to look over them with your son/daughter before our interview time on Thursday/Friday. I will ask that the students bring these portfolios with them to the interview. I asked the students to hand in their chapter 3 summaries and reflections write up tomorrow.

Math--We did not have a Math class today because of the Kevin Brooks presentation. The students should review their Mental Math conversion chart as we will have a short quiz on it soon.

SS--They need to be researching their chosen ancient structure or settlement and work on the project. We missed our SS period today, so we may have to push back the due date.

Science--Review for Thursday's test.

ELA--Chapter three summary and reflections writing assigment and all steps must be completed and ready to hand in in Monday. All writing steps need to be stapled together when handing it in.

ELA--We were working on our scrapbooks today. Students need to work on their chapter 3 summaries and reflections which are all due Monday.

Math--Review the Mental Math Conversion Chart as I will be giving the students a surprise quiz on these percents at any time.

SS--Continue researching your ancient settlements and structures.

There are still a few students who have not brought in their scrapbook and/or binder for portfolios. They must be in tomorrow.
A letter went home today about booking times for parent-student-teacher interviews next week. Please ask the students for the bright neon letter and have them return it tomorrow as it is first come first serve basis.

ELA--The complete rough draft of the novel's chapter 3 reflections is due tomorrow. That is step #3. Anyone who needs to redo their "Evidence of Learning" illustration has until Friday to do so. Last day for signed chapter 2 quizzes, and then tomorrow you will spend time with me at noon hour.

Math-We did not have a class today, so make certain your chart is completed.

SS for all classes--Research your ancient world structure or permanent settlement.

There are a few students who STILL do not have their scrapbook and /or portfolio binder in class. Please get it in.

Daily Update--Nov.15/11

ELA--The Chapter 3 assignment step 1 and 2 should already be done and been self-editted and had a teacher edit. Work on step 3 which deals with a rough draft of the reflections. I said you should have atleast half of that done for tomorrow. Chapter 2 comprehension test needs to be signed and handed in tomorrow or you will be spending time with me at noon. "Evidence of Learning" vocabulary illustrations were handed back today, and many need to be redone because they are not acceptable. You have until Friday to redo them following the suggestions written on the back of the paper.

Math--Mental Math conversion chart of fractions is due tomorrow. Check on the patterns that arise in the chart.

SS--8T--Complete the Compare and Contrast Frame for tomorrow.

Daily Update--Nov.10/11

ELA--Continue daily reading for the weekend. I returned the Chapter 2 comprehension quizzes which students need to get signed and brought back to school on Tuesday. They need to read the rest of chapter 3, and I handed out their next novel writing assignment. The jot notes and rough draft of the summary need to be done for Tuesday.

Math--4.2 in the textbook--questions--a and b in #4,5,6,7,8,9,and all of #11, and #13 in problem format. Due Tuesday.

SS--Have the first 5 categories of the Compare and Contrast frame completed for Tuesday.

Sewing--Poster due Day 4.

Daily Update--Nov. 9/11

ELA--The final IRP's are due tomorrow. The "Hero" paragraph, (web, rough draft, and good copy) are due tomorrow. Remember to bring a picture of your hero as well.

Math--Worksheet #4.2--questions #1,2, and 3 are to be done on the sheet, and #4 b,c,and e, #5,6,7 in problem format, #8 a and c, and #9 are to be done in your scribbler for tomorrow.

Sewing--Poster is due for Day 4.

ELA--The unit test for vocabulary unit3 will be written tomorrow morning. The last IRP for this term is due tomorrow or, the latest, Thursday, if you have spoken to me. The rough draft of the "Hero" paragraph is due tomorrow. Look for a picture of your hero and bring it to school.

Daily Update--Nov. 7/11

ELA--Students' "Evidence of Learning" illustration is due tomorrow at the beginning of class. They need to be reviewing the words in Unit 3 as the unit test is on Wednesday. Their 3rd IRP is due by Wednesday. Hopefully some can be handing in a 4th IRP at that time too. We started a creative writing piece today on the subject of "Heroes". For tomorrow students need to have their web of atleast 7 traits of their chosen hero. We will begin writing the paragraph tomorrow.

Math--I gave the students 3 board questions to calculate for tomorrow. We are working on conversions in percent.

SS-We will be writing a short quiz tomorrow on the Cro-Magnons. The students have notes from the gallery today as well as pages 34-37 in the textbook to studt from.

Students were reminded to bring in their scrapbooks to class, as well as an extra binder that will work as their portfolio binder.

Daily Update--November 4/11

ELA--Please reread chapter 2 in the novel and be prepared to write a comprehension test on the details and events of that chapter on Monday. You third IRP is due by next Wednesday. I hope some students are challenging themselves to write a fourth IRP by that date. "Evidence of Learning" illustration of a unit 3 vocabulary word is due Tuesday.

Math--Calculate the three questions that were written on the board--conversions.

French--Project due Monday.

8C and 8R SS--You have a short test on the Cro-Magnons on Monday. Use the textbook and your notes from our gallery walk to study.

Daily Update--Nov.3/11

ELA--For tomorrow the students need to have their Mind Map of the characters in the novel completed and ready to hand in at the beginning of class. We started reading chapter 2 of the novel today, and the students need to finish reading the chapter and be prepared to write a comprehension test on the events of that chapter on MOnday. They need to read the chapter, and I suggested that they read it again and pay close attention to details. Their third IRP is due by Nov.9.

French--Their project is due MOnday.

Cooking--Students have a test tomorrow.

Daily Update--Nov.2/11

ELA--The "Mind Map" for the novel is due Friday. Please remember to have it colour-coded and presented in a neat, creative manner. Check over chapter 1 in the novel for the information. Work on your next IRP which is due next Wednesday. I assigned the "Evidence of Learning" for vocabulary unit 3 which is an illustration of the chosen word. We started work on it today, and will set a due date tomorrow.

Math--Textbook 4.1 page 128-129--#4, 5, 6 a,c,e,and f, #7,8,9, and #11 for tomorrow.

French--Project is due by Monday.

Daily Update--Nov.1/11

WOW! November 1st!

ELA--We tallied up our pages today for our October reading goal and it looks like the students reached and even surpassed their class goal of 20300 pages which is wonderful. They have now signed a November reading contract and have set the class goal at 22222 pages for December 1st. Their third IRP is due by November 9. I have stressed that there are many who could challenge themselves and try for four IRP's because they have read the books. Go for it, 8T!
The rough draft of the Mind Map for the novel is due tomorrow.

Math--The green worksheet 4.1 is due for tomorrow. The pink Unit Test should be signed and returned tomorrow.

Science--Some students have not handed in a signed Functions test which should have been handed in by now.

Health--The Anti-smoking presentation is due tomorrow.

Any students who have not handed in signed tests for an subject must get them signed and returned to class tomorrow.
