Daily Update--Feb. 26/07

Sorry about the missing update on Friday. I had typed it in and viewed it, however with the internet acting ridiculous all week, I guess it did not go through. Hopefully it will work better this week.

ELA--Work on your short story project; it is due Friday of this week.
--Work on your book report which is due a week from today.

Math--Students did not understand part of the assignment, and did not work on it, so we had an extra class at noon today. The assignment is page 75 # 13 a to d, and ,on the worksheet, please answer # 6 a to f, #12 a to d, #13, #14 a,b,e,f and # 16 all.

Health 8 A and 8b-- Groups are working on their board games.

Tomorrow students( who have signed up) will be going skiing. It is a regular school day for everyone else. I will have work for them to do on throughout the day. They will be with Mr. Gross.

ELA-- The short stories unit project is due next Friday, March 2.
--The book report is due Monday, March 5.

Math--#1 to 9 for tomorrow.

Science--Bring signed test to school.

SS--Written report due tomorrow.

If you are going on the ski trip, remember to bring in the second permission slip signed.

ELA--Hand in signed vocabulary tests.
--Keep reading your chosen book for the next book report. Be thinking as to what book report you would like to work on after you have read the book.
--Work on your short story project as it is due end of next week.

Math--Page 74 and 75--# 4a and #17 a and the six questions on the board due tomorrow.

Science--Get your Science test signed tonight and returned tomorrow to school.

Daily Update--Feb. 19/07

ELA--Students have chosen new books today. They will have approximately two weeks in which to read these books and complete a book report of their own choice. Please encourage home reading so this dead line can be met.
--Vocabulary unit test has been sent home for a signature.

Math--We are working on percent problem type #1--4 questions off the board and page 74 #5 a and c , and #9,11. Due tomorrow.

A reminder of the MS read-a-thon still going on, and students have until next Thursday to read. We will then be collecting the pledges. Thank-you!

ELA--For Monday, students must hand in their next reading response.
--On Monday, we will be choosing books to read for our next book report.

Math--More ratios--worksheet # 3 a, b, e, f,g, 4 a to h, and #5 a to f for Monday.

Hopefully everyone did well on their Science test.

Daily Update--Feb. 15/07

ELA--Reading response is due Monday.

Math--No Math today.

Science--I did have more sample tests handed in today. Students will be writing their unit test tomorrow morning. Prepare yourselves!

Daily Update--Feb.14/07

ELA--Students should be continually working on their reading responses (due Monday).

Math--Ratios--Page 155--# 3, 4 a to h, 5 a to f, 6, 7, 8, and 10 (due tomorrow).

Science--The unit test is on Friday. A sample test was assigned on Monday and was due today. Out of 24 students, only 10 sample tests were handed in today. This is one process to prepare for a unit test. Students need to go through this process, plus others, in order to study and prepare for a test and be successful. The remainder of the tests are due tomorrow. Please remind students of this due date.

ELA--Work on your reading response due Monday.
--We just started our Short Story Unit Project.

Math--Quiz on percentages/fractions/decimals is tomorrow.

Science--Your sample test is due tomorrow. Be ready to hand it in.
--Have the review test I gave you completed for tomorrow.

Health 8B--Quiz on muscle injuries is tomorrow.

Daily Update--Feb. 12/07

ELA--The majority of essays were handed in today. There are a few people who need to finish it up tonight and hand it in tomorrow morning.
--Students should be working on their next reading response which is due by Monday, as they will be selecting a new book on Monday. This will be the book they will read for their next book report.

Math--Due to the presentation today, we were unable to correct Friday's assignment. We will do that tomorrow. Students can go over conversion of fractions to % to decimals as they will have their third mini quiz on Wednesday.

Science--The unit test on the Circulatory System will be written on Friday of this week. Students were given a checklist on Friday, with a worksheet to be completed by tomorrow. They are also working on a sample test worth 40 marks which should be handed in either tomorrow or Wednesday. This will give them an opportunity to go over their notes, transfer the notes into questions and they must know the answers to the questions they ask. I will then photocopy the tests and students can exchange with classmates and have another format from which to study. We talked about "how to study" today--atleast 30 minutes each night,study by doing different things, not just reading.

Daily Update--Feb.7/07

ELA--Work on your essay. You have only two school days in which to work on it, then the rest will be on your own time It is due either Friday or Monday.
--Work and read to finish your next reading response or book report. We will be starting a BOOK REPORT with new books on Feb. 19.

Math --New assignment on ratios--pg. 60--#5,6, and 7. Due tomorrow.

Science--Congratulations to those students who were brave and presented orally today. Everyone must complete this presentation by next Tuesday.
--We will be writing a Science test next week Friday. A checklist and review questions will be handed out tomorrow.
--We dissected sheep hearts yesterday, and, I think, everyone was quite involved and intrigued by it. Hope the students enjoyed the experience.

Health 8A--Quiz on muscle injuries and disorders tomorrow.

I will be away at an inservice for the next two days so I will not be updating the blog. Students will however, have Math homework every night assigned by the substitute. They have their ELA essay to work on. They will also have Science homework which will be to prepare for the test. Unfortunately, the oral presentations will need to be delayed until Monday. Please check with the students as to the daily homework. Thank-you!

Daily Update--Feb.6/07

ELA--Students are working on their persuasive essays. The essay is due either Friday or Monday(if they are needing more time). This essay cannot be written just by using class time. Some work must be done at home, such as researching and/orworking on the rough draft so I can edit with them. Please check with them as to where in the process they are at, and encourage some work to be done at home. The students have chosen some interesting topics to write about.
--January's calendar was handed in today, and we will be signing February's calendar tomorrow. A reading response/book report is due be end of next week.

Science--Students need to be practicing their oral presentation on "Pathway of the Blood". I provided them with more helpful notes today, and they have from tomorrow to next Tuesday in which to present their presentation.

SS--Students will be writing their test tomorrow.

Math--Page 54--#4 c and d, #6 c to f, #7a and #7 b in PF due MOnday.

Science--Last two pages of booklet for Monday.
--Begin rehearsing "Pathway of Blood"; we will begin on Tuesday.
