Daily Update--October 31/11

Being Halloween, I have not assigned any homework for tonight, however, if students have some time they can be working on their next IRP. They need to work on their Health smoking presentation due Wednesday, and some students need to get in signed tests to me asap.

Daily Update--October 28/11

ELA--Last weekend to read to reach individual October reading goals which we will tally up on Tuesday. Vocabulary booklet is to be completed for Monday. Start working on your character mind map for the novel. I am still waiting for signed vocabulary unit 2 tests.

Math--Students did a super job on their unit test. Please get them signed and returned on MOnday.

SS--Work on your note-taking of info on pages 30 and 31. After 10-15 minutes on Monday,
I will collect your notes.

Health--Your anti-smoking presentation will be due Tuesday.

8C--SS--Work on your note-taking of info on pages 30 and 31. On Monday I will collect your notes.

8R--SS--Work on your note-taking of info on pages 30 and 31, and the "Putting into Words" worksheet which is due Monday.

We had our reading party today. Thank you to the students who brought food.

Daily Update--October 27/11

ELA--Some signed vocabulary tests still need to be handed in. Vocabulary booklet needs to be completed for Monday. Our October reading calendar is due next Tuesday.

Math--We wrote the unit test today and I hope everyone did well.

SS--The "Origin of Life" opinion paper is due tomorrow because we switched our SS class today to a Health class.

Health--The Anti-smoking Presentations are due next Tuesday.

8C--SS--The "Origin of Life" opinion paper is due tomorrow.

8R-SS--The note-taking assignment and the "Putting into Words" worksheet are both due Monday.

We are having our September Reading Party tomorrow afternoon when we will be watching a movie and sharing in some munchies. Some students have offered to bring food for the class so I thank them in advance.

Picture money and forms should be in the office.

ELA--Venn diagram is due tomorrow. Have the synonyms and antonyms page completed for tomorow. Hand in signed Unit 2 vocabulary tests.

MAth--REVIEW for the test tomorrow. Review sheet was given out today.

Daily Update--October 25/11

ELA--We started reading chapter one of the novel, The Outsiders. A Venn Diagram has been assigned in which students need to compare and contrast the two gangs. This is due no later than Thursday. We also started Vocabulary unit 3. The page with synonyms and antonyms will be due Thursday with about 10 minutes of class time tomorrow to work on it.

Math --Unit test is on Thursday, so the next review is the pink worksheet #4, #5 c and f, #10 a and b, #12 d and e, #13 c and d, #16 for tomorrow.

SS--The "Origins of Life" opinion paper is due by Thursday, and we had class time to work on it today.

Cooking test on Day 4.

We will be having our September Reading Party (finally)on Friday afternoon. The students decided to watch a movie and have food to eat. They are to ask at home tonight if they can bring anything to eat. We will have half the class bring food for everyone this time, and then the other half will be responsible for food for the next class party. Thank you in advance.

Daily Update--October 24/11

ELA--Students were given their vocabulary unit 2 test back today. They need to get them signed and returned tomorrow. If anyone has not yet handed in their second IRP they need to do so tomorrow. We started our novel study with a blue KWL chart today. It needs to be completed (first two columns and the personal response at the bottom of the page) for tomorrow.

Math--Continueing our review, I handed out a green worksheet that needs to be completed for tomorrow--# 2 a,b, and c, #4, #5 a and b, and #8. Test on Thursday. Extra help every noonhour until then.

Science--Cell model is due tomorrow.

Daily Update--October 20/11

ELA--The second IRP is due Monday. Daily reading should be done as the October calendar is due Nov.1st. We will have our Sept. reading party near the end of next week.

MAth--The unit test is tentatively set for next Thursday. I have handed out a checklist and the first review worksheet which is due Monday. Extra help will be offered every noonhour next week until the test is written.

Science--The cell model is due Tuesday. Please use the weekend to construct it. Do not wait until Monday night please.

French--Sac a dos is due Tuesday.

Picture forms and money need to be handed into the office. Enjoy the weekend!

ELA--The unit test for unit 2 vocabulary is tomorrow. Apostrophe booklet is due tomorrow. The second IRP is due early next week.

Math--Students who wrote the rewrite need to get the tests signed. We will be having the end of unit test next week. Checklist will be handed out tomorrow.

SS--Compare and Contrast Frame is due tomorrow.

Science--Cell model is due next Tuesday.

French--Sac a dos is due tomorrow.

Daily Update--October 18/11

It was nice to be back with the students today.

ELA--Students are working on their second IRP which is due by next Monday/Tuesday. Good copies of their "Evidence of Learning" paragraph is due tomorrow which many have already completed. All aspects of the writing process needs to be handed in with their paragraphs. Vocabulary unit 2 test will be written on Thursday, so review words tonight. Bio poems were handed in and they look great.

SS--The compare and contrast frame on primary and secondary sources is due Thursday.

Science-- The Cell Diagram quiz is tomorrow. Cell model is due next Tuesday.

Art--Assignment due tomorrow.

Daily Update--Oct.12/11

ELA--Students are working on their bio poems. I introduced their Evidence of Learning assignment for unit 2. It is writing a paragraph. Criteria has been handed out. They need to brainstorm ideas and begin their rough draft. Continue to work on their second IRP.

Math--Assignment worksheet 1.5 page 22--#4,5,6, 7 a and c, #8 and 9 for tomorrow. Continue to review for the rewrite on Friday.

Science--Functions test on Thursday. Begin gathering items for your cell model.

Music--Test tomorrow.

French--Test on Friday.

8R--SS--Complete 2-Column Note-taking chart for tomorrow.

I will be away for a few days and will not be back at school until Tuesday, so there will be no blog updates until then. I have let the students know and homework will still be listed up on the board in the room and they will be recording it in their agendas at the end of each day.

Daily update--October 11/11

ELA--Students have had their rough drafts of their bio poems editted by me and are now working on the good copies which will be due Monday. They need to get their vocabulary unit 1 tests signed and returned to me. The next IRP is due around Oct. 20/24.

Math--Math tests need to be signed, and corrections done. The students who received less than 75% on their test must be in for extra help every noon hour until Friday at which time they will write the rewrite. Use the test questions as review.

Science: Functions test is on Thursday.

French--Test on Friday.

Music: Test on Thursday.

Any students interested in attending the Fair Trade Conference in Morden on November 30 need to have the 3 forms filled out and returned to me before next Tuesday. I can take only 6 students to the conference,so please let me know if you are interested. If any parents need further information, please contact me.

Daily Update--October 7/11

In ELA, the students need to complete their Unit 2 vocabulary booklet for Tuesday. They should also start working on the second IRP which is due tentatively around Oct.20. The rough draft of the bio-poem is due Tuesday for editting, and they should be thinking about how they will creatively display the poem. It will probably be due by the end of next week. We have not set a due date yet.

Math--I returned their Math tests today. They need to work on their corrections to be done on a separate sheet of paper and get the test signed. I will be having extra help classes at noon next week with a Math test rewrite on Friday. Anyone who received less than 75% must come in for extra help in order to write the rewrite. Anyone else is welcome to come as well. There is also an asssignment from Thursday's class which was worksheet #1.4 on Powers--#3 a and b, #4a, #5 b,d, and f,#6, #7, and #12 for Tuesday. Most students should have completed this in class.

Science--Students have a spelling test on the names of the organelles on Tuesday.

Daily Update--October 5/11

ELA--Students need to have the synonyms and antonyms page in UNit 2 vocabulary completed for tomorrow. Hand in signed UNit 1 vocabulary tests. Work on the rough draft of the Bio-poems.

Math--We wrote our first mid-unit test, so I hope everyone had prepared and did well.

SS-Students have tomorrow's class and Friday's class, and then the personal timelines are to be handed in by noon on Friday.

French--The timelines are to be done and colour coded by Friday.

8C--SS--Timelines are due tomorrow by 2:30.

8R--SS--Timelines are due by 9:00 tomorrow morning.

Picture day is Friday so please remember to bring in the form by then.

Daily update--Oct.4/11

In ELA, the vocabulary test was handed back. Students need to get them signed and returned tomorrow. We started our UNit 2 vocabulary unit. Students need to have the Synonym/Antonym page completed for Thursday. We also started our Bio-poems. Students are working on the rough draft and choosing descriptive adjectives right now. A rubric with criteria was handed out today. No deadline has been set yet.

Math--I handed out another review sheet today, and asked the students to complete #1 to 4, #10,11,12,16, and 17 and on the other side--#5,6, and 10 a. If they need more questions, they can do the others on that worksheet and go over some questions in the textbook. The test will be written tomorrow morning.

In SS, the students need to have their personal timelines completed by Friday noon hour.

8C--SS--Personal timelines are due Thursday having one class tomorrow and one class on Thursday to work on it.

8R--SS--The personal timelines are due either after tomorrow's class or by 8:55 Thursday morning.


Picture day is Friday. There is a form which needs to be filled out and returned to school by Friday.

Daily Update--October 3/11

Students signed their October reading contract today. With the preliminary count, it looks like we have reached our September reading goal so students are entering their party suggestions and we will decide at a later date as to what type of party we will have and the date.

Tonight the students need to study for their Science test which is tomorrow. They have the checklist and their notes.

In Math, students are reviewing in preparation for Wednesday's test. Tonight they need to do the following questions from their yellow worksheet---# 7 ii and iii, #10 a and b, and #12 c and d. They also have a checklist, their textbook, and other worksheets to draw questions from for further review questions.

SS--The personal timeline will be due Friday.

8C--SS--Personal timeline is due Thursday.

8R--SS--Personal timelines are due by 9 am Thursday.
