Daily Update--Feb.28/11

Wow! It is the last day of February. Can you believe it!

ELA--Students should be working on their book project. The fourth and final one is due by next Thursday. For this last one, students have the choice of either doing a book project or writing an IRP similar to the ones they wrote in the first term. They still have the outline and list of questions in their reading journals. February reading calendars are due tomorrow.

Math--We have not finished correcting the work from last week. If anyone is having difficulty, they need to come in for extra Math help at noon.

Science--The design project is due Thursday.

SS--The layered Egypt project is due tentatively for next Monday.

Health--A quiz on the Bones video notes (from today) will be written on Wednesday.

Remember to hand in the permission form, the waiver form, and the money for the unversity trip as soon as possible.

Daily Update--Feb.23/11

ELA--Students should have already handed in their third book project. We discussed the fourth and last project for this term, and we have decided that it can be either a book project OR an IRP response similar to the ones they did in the first term. Some students really enjoyed working on those so they have a chance to write one this term. Grammar project will be due either by Friday or by Monday, if anyone needs more time.

Math--We did not have enough time to correct the entire assignment from yesterday, so students should check to make sure it is completed and correct.

SS--Students should start their research on the "Egypt Layered Curriculum" project that was handed out. This can be a partner project if they want to work with someone, or they can work alone. The due date will be approximately March 7.

Science--Students should be looking for and gathering supplies for their design project. Work on the design of the project. The final project is due next Thursday or Friday.

A letter, permission form, and a waiver form were handed out today for our field trip to the University of Manitoba on March 10. Have the forms and the $15 to the office by next Wednesday. Thank-you!

I informed the students that I will be at an inservice for the next two days. Mrs. Strachan will be their substitute. If they have any questions, they can always contact me. Hope the rest of the week will be productive.

Daily Update--Feb.22/11

ELA--Students should have atleast 5, if not all, sentences for their grammar root word project done for tomorrow so I can edit with them. I am looking for accurate use of the word, as well as a variety in sentence structure. We are also writing the vocabulary unit 5 test tomorrow.

Math--Worksheet 6.4 #1a,b,c, #2 a and b, #3 a and b, #4 and b, #5 a,b,c and #7,8, and 9 are due tomorrow.

SS--Students were introduced to a new project today, and they should start researching.

Daily Update--Feb. 18/11

I hope everyone enjoyed their unexpected day off. I will have to make some changes to your homework.

ELA--The unit 5 vocabulary test will now be written on Wednesday, just in case some of you were thinking of taking the booklet home today. (It really should have been taken home every night this week.) Use the long weekend to complete your third book project, and to work on your grammar project--definitions and sentences. This project will probably be due by the end of next week.

Science--I am sure you will have to write your quiz on Light Sources on Tuesday.

Daily update--Feb.17/11

ELA--Students should have their 10 words (root word project) chosen and defined so they can start constructing descriptive sentences. A due date will be set tomorrow in class. Vocabulary test for unit 5 will be written on Tuesday. Review words every night. The third book project should be completed or very close to completion, and ready to hand in by Tuesday.

Science--Light sources quiz is tomorrow.

The band concert slated for tonight has been postponed due to the weather.

Daily Update--Feb.16/11

We wrote our Math assessment today, and it took most of the morning.

ELA--Students should be working on their grammar root word project--finding 10 words with the root word that they have chosen. Write out the definitions. They should also be working on their book project. Vocabulary unit 5 test is on Tuesday.

SS--The test is tomorrow. Students were given a chance to come into class after the Math exam to update their notes. They can also use their textbook for any definitions that they may not have.

Daily Update--Feb.15/11

Tomorrow is the Math Assessment. It is important to go over any concepts which you are not certain about, find questions in the textbook or on old tests or on the review sheets, and work through them.

Have a good night's sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast.

Remember to bring all of your supplies for tomorrow. The list will be on the board to remind you.

I am in the classroom by 8:00 again tomorrow, so if you can, come in for extra help.

Daily Update--Feb.14/11

Happy Valentine's Day!

ELA--Students should be working on their 3rd book project which is due this week. Vocabulary unit 5 test is on Friday.

Math--The exam is on Wednesday, so students should be reviewing for atleast one hour the next two nights. They have the list of concepts which they should be looking over, and asking questions in class if they are unsure of any concepts. I have given them questions to work through tonight as well. Go over previous tests for extra questions.

SS--Presentations will be finished tomorrow, and students should be reviewing words every night. The test is on Thursday.

Daily Update--Feb.11/11

ELA--Work on your book projects.

Math--Review and prepare for the assessment next Wednesday. For Monday, complete in review package #4--#4,5,6,7,10,and then #14 in problem format. Then in the textbook, pg.208--#5 c and d , #10 in problem format, pg.214--#8 and 14, and page 153--#12 for Monday. Go over other questions in the text for review.

SS--Test on the 24 words will be on Thursday. Review every night.

Daily Update--Feb.10/11

ELA--The rest of the vocabulary booklet is due tomorrow. The 2 grammar sheets on prefixes and suffixes are also due tomorrow. You should be working on your 3rd book project.

Math--Review package #3 --#5 a,b,c, and #10 a,b,c, and #12 d,e,f for tomorrow. Keep reviewing every night. Do not just stop after the questions I have assigned. Use the text for review questions, too.

Daily Update--Feb.9/11

ELA-Students have started a booklet on Root words, prefixes,and suffixes. They have one page to complete by tomorrow. The vocabulary Unit 5 booklet is due Friday. Students should also be working on their next book project which is due around Feb. 15th.

Math--The exam is a week from today,so students need to be reviewing every night. I have assigned (in the second review booklet) # 5,6,7,10,11, 17, and 19a for tomorrow. I also handed back a short quiz that they wrote last week, and it needs to be signed. Some students need to be coming in for extra help. I am in the room every noon hour for extra help; I am also at school by 8 am, so if students would like to come in the morning for help/review,it is available. I know there are students who arrive by bus and cannot make it for the help in the am, so they need to come in at noon.

SS--We have just begun presenting our words in class today. After all presentations are completed, we will be writing a test, so I encourage the students to review the words every night.

Health--Have the tests signed and returned to class tomorrow.

Daily Update--Feb.7/11

Today the students completed their ELA assessment.

For homework, the students should be working on their third book project which is due by the middle of the month. The Synonym/Antonym section of Unit 5 vocabulary booklet is due Wednesday.

Math--We have started the review for the Math Assessment which will be written on Feb.16. Complete #4,5,10,11,12,and 16 in the first review package by Wednesday.

ELA--You will be writing the last segment of your assessment on Monday morning. That is the grammar segment, and the editting and good copy of the essay. You should be working towards the third book project which is due around the 15th of the month.

Daily Update--Feb.3/11

Tomorrow is the last day of the ELA Assessment. Today we answered short stoty comprehension questions and worked on the essay for a few minutes.

Tomorrow we will work on grammar and complete the essay writing segment. Remember your dictionary and thesaurus.

Students need to work on their book projects. This week has not had much homework so the time can be used for the bookprojects.

Daily Update__Feb.1/11

Can you believe that it is February?

Tomorrow we will begin our ELA Assessment. I told the students that tonight they should review their short story notes, their essay writing notes, and grammar worksheets. They should bring a pencil case, pens, pencils, and a dictionary with them.

They should make sure they have a good night's sleep tonight, and eat a healthy breakfast tomorrow morning. We will begin the assessment at 9:15 and write until 10:45. Regular classes continue after that.

SS--They should be working on their "Word-a-day" project which is due Friday.
