Daily Update--Oct. 31/07

Sorry about the fact that there was no update yesterday. I was sick and away from school.

There is no homework that is due tomorrow because tonight is Halloween, HOWEVER, work that must be completed by Friday is as follows:

ELA--Calendar updated for the month of October.
--Between 3 and 5 (or more) reading responses. by Friday.

SS--The handout that you worked on in class today is due tomorrow. If you used your classtime wisely, you probably finished it in class.

DAily Update--Oct.29/07

We have a unit test in Math tomorrow. The students have another review sheet to work on and they must hand it in tomorrow before the test. Study other review sheets and questions for preparation of the test.

ELA--Bring in signed vocabulary tests.
--All reading responses are due Friday. Check the rubric in your journal for specifics.
--Novel assignment-Letter to Sodapop is due Wednesday. Rough drafts that have been editted and revised must also be handed in with the good copy.

Science--Get test signed and returned tomorrow.

SS--"What? So what?" and the memory box are due tomorrow.

Remember to bring in a scrapbook to class, no later than Wednesday.

7M Science--You have your test tomorrow. Study the three rock groups.

ELA--Creative writing piece is due Monday.
--All reading responses are due by the end of next week. Read and work on them.
--Have your vocabulary test signed.

Math--Review sheet #2 is due Monday with the Unit Test to be written on Tuesday. Extra help has been offered every noon hour this week and will be on Monday as well.

SS--Historical timeline is due Monday.

ELA--Students handed in their comprehension questions today and we listened to a variety of music that was popular at the time of the book's events. No novel assignment tonight.
--Reading responses (hopefully more than 3) will be handed in by next Friday.
--Work on your Halloween/fall writing,due Monday.

Math--No homework , but review for next week's test.

Science-No homework because we wrote the test today.

SS--Historical timeline due Monday.

Please bring in a scrapbook and a binder (for a portfolio) by Monday.

Science--First priority tonight is to study for tomorrow's Science test. Review questions are to help with the study process. They also must be completed for tomorrow and be ready to hand in.

Math--Worksheet (first review sheet) is due tomorrow. Unit test will be next MOnday.

ELA--Chapter 4 comprehension questions are due tomorrow.
--Worksheet on plurals of nouns is due tomorrow.
--Creative writing piece is due Monday.

SS-You are working on your timeline due Monday.

ELA--Students need to read chapter 4 of their novel and answer the comprehension questions for Thursday.

Math--No homework tonight.

Science--Review questions are due Thursday. They are one way to prepare for the test. Practice the process that we discussed in class. Remember that you are handing in the answers for marks.

SS-Work on your historical timelines that are due MOnday.

ELA--The summary and reflections paper is due tomorrow. A handout with all requirements had been handed out last week.
--Work on your reading responses.
--Work on your creative writing piece on fall or Halloween. No due date yet.

Math--Worksheet on Order of Operations is due tomorrow. Unit test end of this week or early next week.

Science--Unit test on Thursday. Questions on page 169 are due tomorrow. Checklist has been handed out.

SS--Historical time line is due either Friday or Monday.

ELA--The end of first term is fast approaching so students need to be thinking of their reading responses. #2 should be in and #3 should be started.
--Chapter 3 in the novel--summary and reflections are due Tuesday.

Math--Same assignment from yesterday--textbook page 476--#8 b,d,f,h ,#10 a,c,e,and g, # 11 d,e, and h, #14 a and c, #16a and #20 a,b, c. Due MOnday.

Science--Unit test next week. Checklist on Monday.

SS--Continue research on your historical timeline which will be due by Monday, Oct. 29.

SS--Beautiful personal timelines were handed in today. Great job!! Now we are starting a historical timeline. Begin research.

--Next novel assignment is to read Ch3. and work on the summary and reflections page. Handout explains the procedure.

Science--Characteristics chart is due after 15 minutes of work tomorrow.

SS--Timelines are due tomorrow.

ELA--"Tuff" posters AND the one page summary are due tomorrow.

Math--Journal entry #4 is due Friday. If anyone wants to rewrite entry #3, you have until Friday to do so.

Daily Update-Oct.15/07

Today we had our class celebration party for reaching out reading goal for the month of Sept. We watched the movie. "E.T.". I hope the students enjoyed it. Thank-you to the students who brought cookies, popcorn, and chips. That was a great treat! Now to work towards our October goal of 18500 pages by Nov. 2.

ELA--The creative writing piece was handed in today. Students had some time to work on their "Tuff"posters which are due Wednesday, along with the one-page summary.
--"Evidence of Learning" for 10 vocabulary words will be due on Friday, same day as the test.
--The second reading response should be in and they should be working on the third one.

Math--Rewrite is tomorrow at noon.

Science--Get test signed and returned to school.

SS--{Personal time-lines are due Thursday.

Daily Update--Oct. 12/07

ELA--Students are working on the following: second reading response, thier writing piece which is due Monday, "Tuff" poster due Wednesday, and their vocabulary "Evidence of Learning" due Friday, and study for the vocabulary test slated for Friday, Oct. 19.

Math--Assignment on order of operations in their textbook on page 471--#4,5,6,and 13 e,f,g,and h. Due Monday. Study for the rewrite which will be on Tuesday.

Science--Get your test signed by your parents.

SS--Personal timeline is due next Thursday.

We are having our celebration party on Monday,so I hope the students who agreed to bring food will remember to do so. Thank-you!

DAily Update--Oct.11/07

ELA--Students have their writing piece to work on. They can hand it in either tomorrow or Monday.
--Second reading response is due.
--Students are working on their "Tuff" novel collage. It will be due next week.

Math--Their mid-unit tests were returned today. Students need to do their corrections for tomorrow. The students who received below 70% must come in for extra help for the next three noonhours and then have the chance to rewrite next Tuesday. The tests must also get signed tonight.

SS--Work on personal timelines which are due next Thursday.

Daily Update--Oct.10/07

ELA--Work on reading responses.
--Writing of their first memoir--"A" is for ...... which is due Friday or MOnday.
--Novel assignment--"Tuff" Collage and one-page summary--to work on. Due date will be decided on tomorrow.

MAth--We wrote our mid-unit test today.

SS--A personal timeline has been assigned. Students should be asking questions at home and gathering information about events that have happened to them in their lives.

7M Science--Diagram of the Earth's layers is due next Science class.

Daily Update--Oct.9/07

ELA--Students should be working on their second reading response.
--Hand in signed vocabulary tests.
--Students started their next creative writing piece, and should be working on their first rough draft. I am hoping that the writing, editting, and conferencing can be done this week and have the good copy handed in by Friday or Monday, the latest.

Math--We will be writing a mid-unit quiz tomorrow. Students can be reviewing the questions from their daily assignment scribbler for practice tonight.

Science--Students should have their 4-quadrant page on the Cell Theory completed for tomorrow.

7M Science--The diagram and written information of the Earth's crust has been assigned and is due either tomorrow or the next day.

Daily Update--Oct.5/07

ELA--Have chapter 2 of the novel read for Tuesday. Be prepared to write a test on the events of that chapter.
--Continue working on your reading responses.

Math--Have page 25-#1,3,4a and b, 5,7,8,and 11 done for Tuesday.

Grade 7 and 8 students have begun their yearbook fundraiser today. It is selling items from the Quality Gift Shop brochure called "Jolly Holiday". I hope you get to see the brochure at home this weekend. This is a voluntary activity so students do not have to participate if they wish not to.

Daily Update--Oct.4/07

ELA--The entire vocabulary booklet is due tomorrow to correct.

Math--I gave the students questions off the board. They are due tomorrow.

Science--Big test tomorrow. I hope everyone has been deligently studying all week.

SS--Two worksheets--one on primary and secondary sources(compare and contrast frame) and one on note-taking) --are due tomorrow.


We reached our reading goal for the month as a class so students are putting in their party suggestions in the can. We will decide soon as to the activities we will do to celebrate. Our class goal for the month of October is 18,500 pages.


7M Science--Your hop-scotches are due tomorrow.

Daily Update--Oct.3/07

ELA--I had the students do some testing today in comprehension so we did not get a chance to correct the vocabulary or the grammar. We will correct all of this tomorrow.
--Students need to have their Mind Map on the novel's characters done for tomorrow.

Math--In Math we went over the same concept as they did yesterday as there were quite a few who did not understand it. I asked them to look over the assignment so that it will be correct when we look over it tomorrow.

Science--Test on Friday. STUDY!!

I am still in need of a few signed information letters.
Tomorrow is picture day! Remember not only your beautiful smiles, but also the signed sheet. Do not bring any money for the pictures.

ELA--We signed our October calendar/contract today, so students can continue to read every night. I am still waiting on more reading responses.
--For tomorrow, vocabulary is due, and two grammar sheets are also due.
--A character mind map was assigned today, and is due Thursday.

Math--Journal entry #3 is due tomorrow.
--Assignment on expanded form and scientific notation is due tomorrow--Page 22 and 23--#4,5,6,7 a and b,#8,10,11a, 12 a and b.

Science--Study every night for the test on Friday.

Daily Update--Oct.1/07

ELA--The students handed in their Sept. calendar today. I will be tallying up their totals tonight.
--I would like more reading responses in this week.
--Vocabulary unit 2 synonyms and antonyms page is due Wednesday.
--I have assigned the reading of the rest of Chapter 1 in The Outsiders for tomorrow.

Math--Journal entry #3 is due Wednesday.

Science--We will be writing a test on the first unit Friday of this week, so students should be studying every night this week.

A few students have not handed in the signed portion of the information letter. Please do so asap. Thank-you!
