Daily Update--May 31/07

ELA--I collected the log entries for Act 4, Scenes 1 and 2 today. A few students did not have this completed. It is important to have them done because we start the next Act and/or Scene the following day. It only takes 10-15 minutes to complete; and there is only one log entry left to do.
--The third book report is due either tomorrow or MOnday (if students need the weekend to complete it).

Math--The students have started to make their own mini Math textbook on some geometry concepts. This is either an individual or partner assignment. It will all be created on the computer so we have not yet set a due date because the availability of labs may cause some delay.

Science--The students have starte d anew unit and are working on a hopscotch and crossword puzzle. A due date will be set tomorrow.

ELA--The next log entry for Act 4,Scenes 1 and 2 will be due tomorrow.
--Next book report deadline will be either Friday, June 1 or MOnday, June 4.

Math--A geometry set is needed for class.

Math--Worksheet (double-sided) on geometry (angles) is due tomorrow.

Daily Update--May 24/07

ELA--Students have to finish their next log entry for Act 3, Scene 2 for MOnday. We are also working on Shakespeare insults which students are REALLY enjoying creating. These are due Monday as well.

Math--No homework.

Science--Review notes and the textbook for the Optics test which is scheduled for Tuesday.

DAily Update--May 23/07

ELA--Some students have not handed in their signed vocabulary tests. We will begin working on our log entry for Act 3 scene2, so students can start on that.
--Read and work on the next reading assignment.

Math--Some students did not hand in their signed Algebra tests. Do so tomorrow.

Science--Students have notes to use to start studying for their Optics test which will be next Tuesday. We will be reviewing in class as well.

SS--An assignment is due tomorrow.

French--8B test on Friday.

Daily Update--May 22/07

ELA--Students need to take their Unit 7 Vocabulary test home and get it signed. If it is returned tomorrow with a signature, the students will get an extra mark.
--Students are working towards their next reading assignment which is in a form of a book report, and is due next Friday, June 1 or Monday, June 4. I will be asking them for their choices within the next few days.

Math--The Algebra test was returned today. Students need to correct their errors and have the test signed and returned tomorrow (for an extra mark).

Health 8B--Brochures are due tomorrow.

Science--We have two more presentations tomorrow, and then we will be reviewing for a test. The test will be in a slightly different format which we will be discussing and reviewing in class. Test date will probably be the end of the week or early next week. We will decide tomorrow.

Daily Update--May 18/07

ELA--We had our class celebration today for reaching our reading goal. The only homework in ELA this weekend is to read. The next reading assignment/book report will be due June 1/4.

Math--We wrote the Algebra unit test today, so no homework.

Health--The health brochures are due next week--8A-Tuesday,May 22 and 8B--Wednesday, May 23.

Daily Update--May 17/07

ELA--The students have surpassed their April reading goal of 15,800 pages. We have infact read 16674 pages and there were 5 students who have not handed in their reading log books,so we read a great deal this past month. As a celebration, we will be have a party tomorrow. The students have decided to bring in munchies and/or money for themselves to buy something at the canteen. They will be having their snacks as we watch a movie. We will also be going outside for some activities.
--We now have set our May reading goal at 16,780 pages.
--The sonnets which the students wrote were very creative and embellished in unique arrangements. I have entered all of them in the library's poetry contest.

Math--The students will be writing their unit test on Algebra tomorrow morning.

Health--Brochures due next week.

DAily Update--May 16/07

ELA--There were some students who did not complete their sonnets and/or their log entries. They spent noon hour working on them. They must be handed in tomorrow.

Math--Review for Friday's test--page 270--# 9, 10, 11, and 17 in the textbook due tomorrow.

Science --We are continuing with the presentations.

SS--Primary document due tomorrow.

Health--Brochures due next week.

Math--Review--Page 384 of the handout--#1 a and b, 7 a,b,and c, and #8 a to e--for tomorrow. The unit test will be on Friday, and extra help is every noonhour this week.

Math--Page 382 of the handout--# 20, 21, 22 a,b,c, and 23 for tomorrow.

ELA--N o homework other than reading and working towards your next book report. Students can start working on the next log entry to keep ahead of things.

Math--Assignment from yesterday--booklet page 381--#5, 7 a to f, #8 a to d,#10 and #16. Due Monday.

Science--We will begin presentations of our projects. Students will have 10-15 minutes to finish their note page that will be handed out to the rest of the class.

Health--Students are working on their brochures which will be due May 22/23.

ELA--Vocabulary test tomorrow.

Math--Same assignment as yesterday because some students did not get it done. We went over the concept again today.

Science--Optics project due tomorrow.

Daily Update--May 7/07

ELA--We are reading Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It is important that the students stay focused and ask many questions so they can follow the plot of the play. Log entries are to be completed after each scene.
--A vocabulary test for unit 7 will be written on Wednesday, May 9/07.

MAth--Algebra can be a difficult concept to understand if practice is not done every day. We also discussed the importance of listening to the explanations in class. The assignment tonight is on page 266--#7,9,10,11,and 15.

Science--Optics project is due Wedenesday. An extra mark will be given to any projects handed in tomorrow.

ELA--Everyone's book report is due tomorrow.
--Log entry for Act 1,Scene 2 is due tomorrow.
--Vocabulary pages (last two in the booklet) are due tomorrow. I think most of this work is very close to completion, if not all ready to hand in tomorrow.

Math--No homework.

Science--Optics project will be due next week,Tuesday.

Health--"Labels" assignment is due next week. 8A-Monday;8B-Tuesday.
